Construction has just commenced at Sunkids Children’s Centre’s newest, state-of-the-art childcare facility being built within the Brisbane Technology Park.
Opening early 2021, the new childcare facility will cater for 101 children from 6 weeks to school age and will consist of six fully serviced rooms designed specifically for each age group, a large undercover semi-outdoor play area, alfresco dining piazza, atelier art studio, and a second-level Zen garden featuring a bamboo forest, quiet reading sanctuary, water features and hanging greenery.
The development of the previous warehouse building will also see the inclusion of a new external facade, additional car parking spaces and a newly landscaped frontage with native greenery.
Sunkids’ General Manager, Reyhaan Omar, said the choice to open a new centre in Brandl Street came from the increased demand of parents to access quality childcare within walking distance of their workplace. Mr Omar is excited to be able to put into practice the Sunkids Philosophy of ‘Parents are the first Educators.’
“Imagine how meaningful to the parents and children it is going to be commuting to the workplace together. Parents having the opportunity to have lunch with their child before going back to work. In this day and age, making the most of these meaningful experiences is of utmost importance. Sunkids are proud to be able to offer this to families of Brisbane Technology Park.”
Engaging spaces inside & out.
The Sunkids belief and vision of early years education will be apparent the minute you walk into the converted warehouse. Staying true to the Reggio Emilia approach to learning, children will have access to an outdoor Piazza for dining, a naturally lit atelier art studio to create and explore, and Reading Hubs situated in a peaceful sanctuary, placing the importance on early years literacy.
Within the six rooms, you’ll find beautiful places where children can feel safe and at home. With a variety of modern learning resources, cosy nooks, tranquil reading hubs, and modular play spaces, the rooms will support quality interactions amongst children and educators. One of the rooms will be designed with Kindergarten children in mind, creating learning opportunities facilitated by an Early Childhood Teacher to ensure the children are well prepared for their formal years of education.
Other features planned for this exciting centre include the large, one-of-a-kind, semi-outdoor play area. This unique space will feature rolling hills, sand play zones, water pump and rock riverbed, slides, performance stage, bike track, interactive garden beds and more. There will also be a second-level, Japanese-style Zen garden featuring a bamboo forest, water features, hanging greenery, and a quiet reading sanctuary, all shaded by a large cherry blossom tree.
Making waves in the industry.
Mr Omar believes the design of the new Sunkids childcare facility will make waves within the early education industry through their innovative approach to repurposing the existing space.
“We partnered up with leading creative architects to allow us to dream up the design of this unique and innovative centre. Together, we will set a new benchmark for childcare facilities within Australia with our highly engaging, one of a kind multi-level, indoor-outdoor playscape area” said Omar.
“The children will love to play in an area that will seem like a whole other world to them, complete with sand and water play areas, performance stages, bike tracks, landscaped greenery, and a Japanese-style Zen garden.”
